Meet the Author: Sabrina Plumb DeCastra

A young woman with long brown hair sitting on a plush pink sofa with large cushions, smiling at the camera. Behind her is a wall of greenery and pink and white flowers, with a window letting in natural light.

It turns out the people who know you best are the ones you’ve collected along the way. Friends - Your chosen family.

I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and life is full of signs and people pointing you in the direction you need to go. A single Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) one-shot campaign while simultaneously hopping on the Bridgerton bandwagon a few years late was the perfect push of what I didn’t know I needed.

DnD reminded me that it’s important to have an imagination even as an adult. Escaping into the life of a made up wood elf druid to fight dragons and use magic - exactly what I need to stimulate my mind when I’m not being a professional emailer…I mean marketing associate.

I fell in love with Bridgerton on Netflix prompting me to read the books. Naturally I had to know everything about the author, Julia Quinn. Her story from medical school student to romance novelist was a cold smack in the face at just the right time.

After a horrible few days at work one November afternoon I opened a blank word document and wrote Chapter 1. My husband read it and told me not to stop, thus, Embracing the Druid was finished 5 months and 5 days later.

The biggest surprise to me was that no one was surprised I was writing a book. In fact, they had been waiting for me to figure it out. Years of loving writing assignments in school, writing and directing plays, noticing word choice in my favorite TV shows (shout out to Pushing Daisies), writing elaborate murder mystery scripts for annual Halloween parties… it was in me all along. I just finally embraced it.

When I’m not writing or reading you can find me…

  • Spending time with my wonderful husband, Thomas, and deaf pit bull, Sweets (Deaf Dogs Rock by the way).

  • Hosting a revolving door of friends for holidays, pool days, DnD or just because.

  • Taking care of our two saltwater aquariums (I’m a Pisces - fish are my people).

  • Frequenting Medina Square in beautiful Medina, Ohio including Black Cat Books & Oddities and Cool Beans because coffee is life.

  • Taking pictures of mushrooms, toads, bees, lichen, wildlife, flowers… you get the idea.

  • Listening to the birds and bats from our back deck with a glass of my favorite Gervasi wine.

  • Planting native flowers with my husband to support our native pollinators (thanks to Rent Mason Bees, Prairie Moon Nursery and Medina County Soil & Water).

  • Traveling to the Caribbean, Bourbon Trail and lots of places in between.

  • Supporting the local writers and authors in MCDL’s Plot Twist Writer’s Group.
